Back pain during pregnancy

Back pain during pregnancy? You’re not alone.

Are you experiencing back pain as your baby grows? Well, if so, than you are one among many pregnant women who experience this throughout their nine months. In fact, according to Mayo Clinic,  it is estimated that between 50-70% of women will experience back pain at some point during their pregnancy, usually during the third trimester.

Why does it happen?

Back pain can be experienced for many different reasons.  Obviously, as your baby grows, extra weight is added onto the front of your abdomen that your back has to support. This extra weight also shifts your center of gravity forward, causing your back to arch further than it was intended to. This can put pressure on the wrong spots. Another reason for back pain could be the hormone relaxin that is released during pregnancy. This hormone loosens the joints and ligaments in the pelvic region in order to prepare the body for birth. Unfortunately, it can also cause some parts to move around more than they should. This can cause back and hip pain as a side effect. Lastly, bad posture, obesity, and having previous back problems can also contribute to back pain.

Can it be cured?

Well, back pain is a tricky thing that can be caused for many different reasons, so it’s hard to cure completely. However, luckily for all the ladies in pain out there, there are some things to be done that can lessen back pain.

  1. Use CABEA’s Original BabyBellyBand Support Band and add on shoulder straps to lift the belly, improve posture, and take the weight off of your pelvic floor! This product has a nearly 5 star review and, according to real moms, can help significantly. K. Wells said “Honestly, the Babybellyband by itself helps, but the Shoulder straps are a must”!
  2. Elevate your feet
  3. Sleep on your back
  4. Ask others to help you lift things. This is hard if you are a mom with toddlers though, which is why the Babybellyband is a perfect option for you!
  5. Wear supportive footwear
  6. Exercise
  7. Use a heat/cold therapy pack to relax your back muscles
  8. Get a massage!
